Thumbs Up Adebayor hits out at FA fine

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor claims his Football Association imposed £25,000 fine for his controversial goal celebration is "excessive".

The Togo striker was handed a suspended two-match ban and the fine on Thursday following his decision to run the length of the pitch and celebrate scoring in front of fans of former club Arsenal during City's highly-charged 4-2 win at Eastlands last month.

Adebayor was previously banned for three games following a violent conduct charge levelled against him after appearing to stamp on former team-mate Robin van Persie during the same game.

But despite escaping a fresh ban for his goal celebration, Adebayor has still spoken out about the size of the financial punishment he received.

"They have punished me for celebrating a goal and I accept it but I think it is excessive," he told The People.

"But now I have to forget it and just think about scoring goals without any problems."

However, Adebayor has suggested that he has learned his lesson following the trouble which erupted after his goal celebration at Eastlands.

He added: "If I play in the Emirates and score I will celebrate of course, but I will do it with my fans."
