England move to sixth in FIFA world rankings England have moved up to sixth in FIFA’s world rankings, based on teams’ performances over the last four years, released today. In will be a boost for Fabio Capello’s side before they go in to Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday.
The Three Lions continue their improvement under the Italian and are on course to make the World Cup in South Africa next year.
Spain, who won the European Champions in Austria and Switzerland, remain top of the tree – a position they have now held for a year. Meanwhile the Netherlands moved up one place to second – the highest they have been for almost four years.
Elsewhere world champions Italy moved up to fourth from third; Germany dropped a place to third; Brazil were down one to fifth; and Argentina dropped a place to seventh.
Paraguay, who top the South American World Cup qualifying zone, jumped up from 17th to 13th, making them the biggest movers this month. And Serbia and Ukraine moved into the top 20 at the expense of Cameroon and Bulgaria. FIFA RANKINGS
