Foster earns England call-up

England manager Fabio Capello has drafted Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster into his squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Belarus as a replacement for the suspended Robert Green.

Foster was omitted from the squad for Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Ukraine after being sent for scans on bruised ribs sustained in United's 2-2 draw with Sunderland last weekend.

The 26-year-old endured a poor game against the Black Cats and was criticised for allowing Kenwyne Jones to head the visitors into the lead in the second half.

He was also at fault for two Manchester City goals in last month's 4-3 derby win for Sir Alex Ferguson's side at Old Trafford.

Green misses Wednesday's game after being sent off in the opening stages of Saturday's loss in Dnipro.

David James is expected to start against Belarus after coming on as a substitute for Aaron Lennon after Green's early departure.

Foster has two England caps to his name. He made his international debut when he started the 1-0 friendly defeat to Spain in February 2007 and then came on as a substitute against Slovakia seven months ago.
