Former AC Milan captain Paulo Maldini believes that the Rossoneri's best chance of success lies in the Champions League.
After a poor start to their Serie A campaign Milan have hit a patch of form and are unbeaten in their last seven matches - however they still languish seven points adrift of leaders and city-rivals Inter.
And recently retired Milan legend Maldini is one of those who remain sceptical of them achieving domestic success this year.
Speaking to Spanish daily Marca he commented "They won't do much in the league because they aren't a regular team.
"They can win or lose against anyone. In the Champions League we will see..."
And Maldini isn't too optimistic about the future, fearing that they could be left behind by big-spending rivals.
"They need to make some changes, but to do that they need a lot of money" he added.
He then went on to compliment Barcelona star Lionel Messi, comparing him to another Argentine great.
"Sometimes he reminds me of [Diego] Maradona and he's certainly one of the best players I've ever seen," Maldini concluded.
