Thumbs Down Nani: Fergie’s trashed my career

Nani has effectively ended his career at Manchester United, giving a tell-all interview about Sir Alex Ferguson’s methods of management. (Warning: Strong Language)

The Portuguese winger did not mince his words in an interview that is sure to leave Ferguson furious.

Nani's surprise revelation could mean the end of a mediocre Old Trafford career, which has seen the midfielder fail to play as well as the departed Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 23-year-old has clearly snapped, as he revealed how:

* He has been on the receiving end of Ferguson's 'hairdryer treatment'.
* He is at his wits' end after being excluded from the big-game starting XI.
* Promises from Sir Alex have not been fulfilled.

Nani also said that his boss' handling of playing personnel in terms of selection has left him frustrated and his confidence tattered.

However, the Portugal international is adamant that he intends to stay at Old Trafford, though Ferguson might opt to ship him out after this latest outburst.

"Ferguson is a very complicated man," Nani told the Portuguese newspaper 'I'. "He's tough. If things are all right, then they are all right. But when he thinks something is wrong, everything is screwed."

"He can go from complimenting you to just plain trashing you in a matter of minutes. Has it happened to me? Hell, yes! He'll say 'Nani, how could you miss this or this'?"

Nani conceded that United icons such as Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville are not spared from Fergie's own brand of tyranny.

He added: "He shouts at players in front of everyone. No one escapes, everybody is the same. Giggs and Neville suffer most, because they have more experience. It is 'F**k' here and 'F**k' there."

Ferguson has famously dumped players in the past for speaking unfavourably about his methods in the press.

Jaap Stam found out the hard way when he published his tell-all autobiography in 2001 as the Man United manager ditched him in a £16.5million move to Lazio shortly after.

England golden boy David Beckham was shipped out to Real Madrid after his infamous bust-up with Ferguson.

Even Roy Keane, a favourite of Fergie's, opted to join Celtic in 2005 after criticizing the team on the United's television network - a gesture that infuriated the Scot.

Nani's dismal displays in his time at Old Trafford will not endear his to his manager after this admission to the press.

The Portuguese player was slated to take over Cristiano Ronaldo's spot after the latter's £80 million move to Real Madrid in the summer, but has been largely inconsistent in his offerings in the pitch.

Nani admitted: "People expect more from me and it's not easy. But they are also not doing what they said they were going to.

"I know it would be better if I scored more goals.

"I can have a spectacular game but nobody guarantees me I will be starting the next match. It shatters your confidence.

"I did not play the important matches, against Liverpool, Manchester City or Tottenham. Not playing these games, I am a bit sad. But for now I am not considering leaving."

Nani did have a great start to the season in the current campaign, giving United the lead in the Community Shield against Chelsea, only to lose to the Blues on penalties.

He has been in and out of the team's line-up ever since, scoring only one goal in the Red Devils' 5-0 thumping of Wigan in 13 appearances.
