The Indian contingent booked their place in the finals of the 12th ONGC Nehru cup against Syria.
A game that would have sufficed with a draw saw the Indian team beat their opponents convincingly.
The first goal came in the 39th minute after a Renedy Singh pass was latched on by the Indian Captain Bhaichung Bhutia, who then beat two defenders in the box and rolled it under the keeper to give India a much deserved lead.
The Indians got their second goal in the 60th minute after Steven Dias’ pass was put goal wards by Bhutia for Sunil Chettri to get the last touch. 2-0 to the Indians and the game looked in the bag.
Soon after the 2nd goal, Bhaichung Bhutia made way for Abhishek Yadav making his second appearance in the tournament as a substitute.
With the Kyrgyzstanis launching a late attack, Indians played on the counterattack and were successful in getting a third in the injury time. Ajayan Nair gave a through ball to Abhishek Yadav who beat the offside trap to roll the ball under a distorted keeper.
