Sonny Bill Williams, former rugby league star of the Canterbury Bulldogs, whose controversial change of code and signing with French Rugby Union side Toulon (for a million plus), caused such an outrage in 2008, has been selected to play as a member of the Barbarians, during the upcoming tri-nations series in June 2009 against Australia.

First match will be in Sydney on June 6th at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Sonny Bill Williams is set make his professional boxing debut on the undercard to Anthony Mundine's coming world title fight.

His decision to step into the ring was influenced by the fact that the proposed fight would be of benefit to Mundine’s KO To Drugs promotion.

Williams has reportedly been training for the stoush in a French boxing gym.

The Toulon rugby star made headlines earlier this month when it was announced he would return to Australia in June to play for the Barbarians against the Wallabies.

Mundine’s world title fight is expected to take place in May against Australia's IBO middleweight champion Daniel Geale.

An official announcement is expected later this month with SBW’s involvement to no doubt give the promotion a massive boost.

Williams was involved in Mundine's previous KO to Drugs promotion last year when he teamed up alongside Richmond AFL star Ben Cousins and Olympian Nova Batman (nee Peris) to support the cause.

Life’s been tough for the injury prone Williams since walking out on the Bulldogs to play rugby union for Toulon.

His star-studded team sit 11th in the Top 14 competition and have six games remaining before their campaign ends on May 16.

CA Brumbies player Shawn Mackay has died in hospital in Durban, Sth Africa, (11am AEST, Monday 6 April, 2009). Mackay was seriously injured in a road side accident in Durban last Sunday morning.

Brumbies Rugby CEO Andrew Fagan says while Mackay had shown positive signs of recovery from his injuries, a subsequent blood infection has claimed his life.

"Shawn contracted an infection of his bloodstream after his surgery. He deteriorated rapidly, and suffered a cardiac arrest from which he didn't recover.

"This is devastating news for his family and for all of us in the Brumbies community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time"
