Shock SEVILLA Wins Spanish Super Cup !!!!

A 26th minute penalty from Luis Fabiano was enough for Sevilla to defeat Real Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of the Spanish Supercopa.

Fabiano could have had at least a hat-trick in the first half.

As early as the third minute the Brazilian found himself through on goal but an extremely tame left foot strike was easily saved by Iker Casillas as the Sevilla fans were left to bemoan the loss of Fredi Kanoute to suspension.

Fabiano made amends in the 26th minute when referee Pérez Burrul awarded Sevilla a penalty after Sergio Ramos clumsily felled Duda as he pulled the trigger from 10 yards. Fabiano stepped up and hammered home the spot kick, sending Casillas the wrong way.

But it didn't take the mis-firing striker long to undo his good work and in the 44th minute failed to take advantage of a very rare Casillas mistake. The Madrid keeper literally dropped the ball in Fabiano's path and the volley looked spectacular, but with an open goal at his mercy the striker failed to find the target.

Madrid's best moment of the first half fell to Raul who, after good work, found himself one-on-one with Sevilla keeper Andres Palop. A square ball to the supporting Guti would have set up a certain goal but Madrid's golden boy tried to take it round Palop who stuck out a hand and the danger was cleared.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first with Sevilla dominating proceedings with Dani Alves and Jesus Navas passing the ball about brilliantly.

But little by little Madrid clawed their way into the game, largely through the left boot of Guti who began to drop deeper and deeper in order to stamp his authority on the game. A perfectly weighted Guti free kick in the 48th minute somehow evaded everyone in the area except Palop and he gratefully gathered the set piece.

Guti was unable to single-handedly steer Madrid towards victory but Bernd Schuster sensed Madrid were gunning for the win and sent strikers Julio Baptista and Javier Saviola into the fold.

Saviola had penalty claims waved away by the ref in the 64th minute as he tumbled to the deck and moments later Fabiano saw a chance go begging at the other end as his header flashed past the far post.

Madrid became more aggressive as the half progressed but for all their attacking they failed to carve out any clear cut chances. Their best chance came in the final minute as Guti back-heeled to Mahamadou Diarra on the edge of the area who hammered in a low shot, which Palop managed to flick wide with an outstretched left hand.

It wasn't to be Madrid's night and Sevilla held out to take a slender advantage into next Sunday's second leg.

MADRID, Spain (AP) - Frederic Kanoute scored a hat trick and Renato added two more goals for Sevilla to beat Real Madrid 5-3 and lift the Spanish Supercup for the first time on Sunday.

Sevilla won the annual trophy, which pits the league champion against the Copa del Rey winner, by a 6-3 aggregate score, having won last week's first leg 1-0.

Sevilla's victory at Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium continued the club's most successful period in its history. The Andalusian team has won consecutive UEFA Cup titles together with the European Supercup and the Copa del Rey. Sevilla faces AC Milan in this season's European Supercup on Aug. 31.

Royston Drenthe, Fabio Cannavaro and Sergio Ramos replied for Madrid, which was seeking its eighth Supercup triumph since the competition began in 1982.

Pepe, Madrid's recently acquired Brazilian central defender from FC Porto, was ejected in injury time after receiving his second yellow card.

Madrid's defeat was a blow to its new German coach Bernd Schuster, a former Madrid midfielder who replaced the sacked Fabio Capello after the team won the league title in June.

Brazilian midfielder Renato opened the scoring from close range in the 17th minute after Christian Poulsen took advantage of a parry by Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas to fire the ball across goal.

Madrid's recent signing from Feyenoord, Netherlands under-21 international Drenthe, tied the game in spectacular fashion with a fierce long-range shot which hit the underside of the bar and bounced over the line seven minutes later.

Renato then doubled his tally in the 29th minute with a glancing header from Sergio Duda's cross.

The home team's plight worsened in the 38th minute when Kanoute, who missed the first leg through suspension, converted his spot kick after Pepe's handball.

The fifth goal of the first half arrived in the 45th minute when unmarked Cannavaro ran in to meet an outswinging cross by Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who joined Madrid from Ajax last week.

Ramos, a former Sevilla defender, drew Madrid level with a 78th-minute header from a free kick by substitute Jose Maria ''Guti'' Gutierrez.

Right back Daniel Alves, whose transfer to Chelsea last week was halted when the clubs failed to agree on a fee, helped Sevilla restore its lead in the 82nd minute with a low cross which Kanoute slid home.

The Mali international completed his hat trick in injury time from a cross by substitute Enzo Maresca.
