McLaren's Lewis Hamilton looked to be in trouble when his first Q3 qualifying run Shanghai yielded only third place as he got into a big slide in Turn Eight, but he put that right when it mattered to grab pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix with a lap of 1m 36.303s.
That comfortably outpaced the Ferrari of 2007 winner Kimi Raikkonen, who lapped in 1m 36.645s to beat team mate Felipe Massa. The Brazilian recorded 1m 36.889s. Right at the end Fernando Alonso jumped up to fourth for Renault with 1m 36.927s, while early pacesetter Heikki Kovalainen made an error on his second run and had to be content with fifth on 1m 36.930s. Final Position
1. Lewis Hamilton 1′36.303
2. Kimi Raikkonen 1′36.645
3. Felipe Massa 1′36.889
4. Fernando Alonso 1′36.927
5. Heikki Kovalainen 1′36.930
6. Mark Webber 1′37.083
7. Nick Heidfeld 1′37.201
8. Sebastian Vettel 1′37.685
9. Jarno Trulli 1′37.934
10. Sebastien Bourdais 1′38.885 ---------------------------------------------- |

He told a press conference Yes, no doubt, if I can help, I will help Massa When I said this in Fuji what I meant is that now we have a competitive car it seems that we are able to fight sometimes with Ferrari and McLaren and first of all we need to have a competitive, hard car here in Shanghai and Brazil to be fighting with Ferrari and McLaren. If we do that and Felipe wins the race and I can be second or third I will be happy to help Felipe to take as many points as possible and this is the only approach.

I fell asleep in between
Hamilton has won and really he will have to drive real badly to lose from here in Brazil and we know he has a habit of falling asleep in the car so fingers crossed
Hamilton on way to the championship win and Ferrari have almost wrapped up the Constructors championship.

There's no Alonso this time to support Ferrari's cause (although he could still play a major role ). Remember last year Hamilton had a brain fade desperately tried to pass his own team-mate and then when he failed, he accidentally hit the pit-limiter button. | |
