McLaren’s new mega-motorhome made its debut at a soggy Silverstone yesterday, with hordes of engineers bolting it together in time for the start of the grand prix weekend on Friday.
The new race base appears to have been modelled on McLaren’s Technology Centre in Woking but with a grey bus stuck on it, making it look a bit like RoboCop’s head.
Said our modern architecture expert, Andre Mange-Tout: “It is a wonderful symbiosis of curves, different angles and some nice straight bits – plus the fact it looks a bit like RoboCop gives it a certain edgy toughness.”
The motorhome also bears a passing resemblance to the nearby British Racing Drivers’ Club HQ (just greyer and a bit less glass) – indeed there was confusion this morning when an elderly BRDC member wandered in and asked for a gin and tonic and his morning paper, before being politely asked to leave.
