Alonso admits Ferrari was too fast
Fernando Alonso admitted that the Ferraris were simply too fast for him in the title-deciding Brazilian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton's dreadful afternoon threw Alonso a championship lifeline, but third place behind the dominant Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa was no use to the 2005/6 champion - who had to hand his crown to Raikkonen.
"The result today is of course disappointing but we already knew that it would be difficult starting from fourth to win the race and the championship today," said Alonso.
"It was a difficult race for me.
"During the first laps, I thought I was able to match the Ferraris’ speed.
"However, when they began pushing they were just too fast."
Alonso admitted to disappointment at missing out on a third consecutive title by the tiny margin of one point, but said he remained content with his turbulent year.
"I predicted at the start of the season that it was going to be very close and that it would come down to the race here in Brazil, I just hoped that it would have been in my favour, but that is not the case and I just have to accept that for this year," he said.
"Our car was fast and competitive throughout the year and I won four races.
"I am still satisfied with this season."
Although Hamilton and Alonso ended the year tied on points, the British driver took the runner-up spot on countback as he had scored more second places
