Italian Daily has circulated a report today that Fernando Alonso is all set to race for Ferrari from the year 2011
Fernando Alonso has a secret agreement to join Ferrari for four years from 2011, Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Sunday.
Now Gazzetta dello Sport as quoted by Bulgarian-language Dnevnik daily claims that Alonso has signed a secret contract with Ferrari to join them for four seasons as of 2011 when Ferrari’s contracts with their current drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa are due to expire.
“We have two-year contracts with Raikkonen and Massa. The future is ahead of us and Alonso is an excellent driver but life is long… he is young” Ferrari president Luca di
Montezemolo said. Earlier in December, he told Italian TV channel Sky Sports “I think Fernando Alonso is a huge driver, a leader, a nice guy. We could have signed him when he still was at Minardi, but life is long”.
"Now, we have a problem: we confirmed Massa and Raikkonen for 2009 and 2010; we have a lot of faith in these drivers, we celebrated with them this season," Montezemolo said.
"I wouldn't change Massa for any other driver in the world. Right now, I'm sure Raikkonen will have an amazing season," he said.
Ferrari have Raikkonen and this year's title runner-up Felipe Massa under contract until the end of 2010, while Alonso's current deal with Renault also runs for two more seasons.
A Ferrari spokesman would not comment on the reports, apart from saying: "We can only repeat that we have two drivers signed to the end of 2010". (Reporting by Paul Virgo and Alan Baldwin; Editing by John O'Brien)
F1 would survive till then
If massa and Kimi win the next 2 championships I feel ferrari would continue with atleast one of them Don't know which one though, but they wouldn't have alonso and kimi in the same team
