BMW happy despite race troubles
BMW was delighted to pass the 100 point mark with its fifth and sixth places in the Brazilian Grand Prix, even though it was a less than perfect race for the team.
Robert Kubica lost fourth to Nico Rosberg on the penultimate lap after having to slow to protect an overheating engine, while Nick Heidfeld lost ground when edged wide by Rosberg as they battled nine laps earlier.
"For our team it was a great finish to a very good season," said team boss Mario Theissen.
"With positions five and six we reached the 100 point mark in the final race and scored almost three times as many points as in the previous season.
"I would like to thank the drivers and the whole team - not only here at the track, but especially in Munich and Hinwil."
Kubica had ran as high as third while charging on a three-stop strategy, but fell to sixth following his final stop.
He made up two places when Rosberg and Heidfeld skittered wide, only to lose out to Rosberg again at the end.
"Everything was going all right until I got the call to reduce the rpm of the engine because the temperatures were too high," Kubica said.
"Then when I was behind Nico Rosberg I was losing a lot of time each lap.
"In the last ten laps I was having lots of problems with the tyres and I was just trying to keep the car on the track."
Heidfeld was relatively satisfied with the result but hit out at Rosberg over his passing move.
"The manoeuvre was hard and on the limit, but if I had not opened the door we would have crashed," he said.
"We both went on the dirt a little bit and Robert squeezed through.
"At the very end I was faster than him again but couldn't go by."
