Silverstone has said that the ticket sales for the 2007 British Grand Prix have risen after McLaren announced that British rookie Lewis Hamilton will partner world champion Alonso for the 2007 season.
For the first time since 2000, there will be 4 british drivers on the grid. Jenson Button for Honda, David Coulthard for Red Bull, Lewis HAmilton for McLaren and Anthony Davidson for Super aguri.
“It’s great that we now have four British drivers confirmed for next year," said Silverstone MD Richard Phillips.
"We’ve always said that a successful British driver, or a strong British interest for the fans, helps sell tickets.
"Jenson Button and David Coulthard have always enjoyed huge support from the home crowd at Silverstone, and Lewis Hamilton received a fantastic reception when he won both GP2 races here in 2006.
“It’s only been a week since Lewis’ drive was announced, and two weeks since Anthony was confirmed at Super Aguri, but we’ve already seen an increase in ticket sales," he added.
"The last time we saw a reaction like this was after Jenson won in Hungary, so we’re hoping it’s a sign of things to come.”
It turns out that ticket sales for the 2007 GP were higher than the sales for the 2006 GP at the same time last year even before Hamilton and Davidson's deals were announced.
Looks like it will be a lot harder for BErnie to kick out the British GP from the calender
