Ferrari decide to ditch KERS Ferrari have decided against using the KERS energy-boost system at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
The Italian team have had little cheer so far this season with both Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa yet to register a point after two races.
Raikkonen endured reliability issues in Malaysia earlier this month and that has prompted Ferrari to ditch the system.
"We need to understand what happened to the system from the point of view of safety and reliability," Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said.
"It has delivered a performance benefit, but if it is not running safely and reliably, we can no longer take the risk of running it."
Ferrari were one of only four teams running KERS but the season has been dominated by those teams without the system.
It is an added disappointment for Ferrari who must make quick changes to their car to add the double-decker diffuser that was ruled legal by the FIA's International Court of Appeal on Wednesday.
Brawn GP were one of only three teams to implement the design from the start of the season and they have dominated in the opening two races with Jenson Button winning both. ---------------------------------------------- |
