Hamilton: We'll do our talking on the track
World championship leader Lewis Hamilton has told title rival Ferrari that McLaren will do all its talking on the track at Monza as the latest twist in Formula 1’s ongoing spy saga once again threatens to overshadow the weekend.
McLaren will be back before the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council in Paris next week after the governing body revealed it had received new evidence in the spying case – promoting a response from Ferrari in Italy on Thursday saying “the truth will out”.
Hamilton insists the Italian squad are trying to paint a false picture of McLaren, but insists neither he nor the team will be drawn into a slanging match and will instead concentrate on beating Ferrari in its own backyard.
“Ferrari are looking the most innocent team ever — and I don’t think that’s the case,” the 22-year-old was quoted as saying in the British press.
“I know my team, I know the people here and I think we are being unfairly treated.
“We'll do our talking on the track.
“That's what we want to do, that's the best way to do it and hopefully here is where we will do it.
“That's the best place, on the track."
"Absolutely the way to do it."
While the two fierce rivals continue to be at odds off the track, the track battle went up a notch at the last round in Turkey when Ferrari’s 1-2 trimmed the Woking squad’s advantage in both title races.
But McLaren is confident of showing a better performance at Monza and Hamilton reckons a win for his team here will deal the Scuderia a huge psychological blow.
"That's been the target for the whole team,” he said of winning at Monza.
“That's why they have pushed so hard.
“Beating Ferrari on their home ground has got to be a huge blow to their whole team and that would make the [McLaren] team extremely happy."
