It is official. IOA president Suresh Kalmadi has announced that IOA will be in charge of the even in 2009.


India have been awarded a Formula One Grand Prix race to be held from 2009, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi announced on Thursday.

"We have received a letter in this regard from Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula One. The IOA will be the promoter, the first event of which will be held in 2009," he told a news conference.

It is still unclear as to where teh race will be held.

we dont have a track that meet F1 standards nor its possible to built one by 09.Been hearing this for a long time on newspapers,telivision etc..

it looks impossible

India neither has any track, nor the infrastructure required to hold such a race(heck the aerodrome required is only present in metros and its unlikely we will have a race there)

Highly doubtful India can make a race track in 2 years flat

msn has that story and New Delhi is being cited as the likely host. Provided Govt. creates a F1 approved rac track prior to the event.

Considering that the guv is hard pressed already with the commonwealth games to be held there, I find this highly unlikely. Making a F1 track is no joke and certainly not something that can be done in 1 year in India. (In 1 year we will be lucky to get the land for the track )

nothing is impossible....all u need are enuf funds and willingness to finish the job in time. it can be done in 4-6 months with proper planning. compared to that two years is such a long time. don't worry if its india...and i guess they already have a plot earmarked for the same. herman tilke was in delhi couple of months ago to finalize the track design. in all probabilities, it will be another street circuit.
