Kubica: tangle was racing incident Robert Kubica said his collision with Lewis Hamilton during the Japanese Grand Prix was a racing incident caused by a misunderstanding over what lines they were taking.
The BMW driver was given a drivethrough penalty for clipping Hamilton into a spin as he pushed to make up ground before his pit stop.
Hamilton recovered from the incident without damage and with only minimal delay, eventually taking a commanding victory.
"I was running much quicker and in corner 14 he was doing a completely different line," Kubica told ITV Sport's Louise Goodman.
"He was completely wide, I was much quicker, I stayed inside and then he cut in to the apex, I was there and unfortunately we touched.
"I think it was a racing accident."
Kubica also escaped several touches with Felipe Massa on the final lap as they waged a spectacular battle over sixth place.
The Ferrari emerged on top at the end of the dice, which Kubica felt had been "a bit on the risky side."
"It was similar with Massa - fortunately I saw him on the last lap and went wide, and we touched," he said.
"If he had given me half a metre I would have managed to go (without contact) but he didn't see me probably."
The Pole questioned race control's decision to get the race underway after 19 laps behind the safety car, as he felt conditions were still too wet at that stage.
"Unfortunately the beginning of the race was very risky, for me the decision was a bit too early and it was a bit mad to drive," he said.
Kubica's chaotic race also included a solo spin, and difficulties with water ingress at both restarts.
"We had some problems with water coming into the engine and I lost a position on the start because I had no power in the engine," he said.
"Then it cleaned up with the higher revs and I overtook the Renaults again.
"At the restart after the second safety car again I had this problem with the misfire and the water in the engine, so it cost me again and I stayed behind Rubens (Barrichello)."

I think it was unfair to him to be given the drive through penalty.... it was just a racing incident. ---------------------------------------------- |
