Michael Schumacher was not the only legendary name to bow out of Formula One in Brazil. As well as the seven-time world champion, the race also saw the end of the road for engine builder Cosworth and tyre supplier Michelin.
Michelin, who re-entered F1 in 2001, ended their association in some style, as Fernando Alonso and Renault sealed the drivers’ and constructors’ titles for the second year running on the French rubber.
Michelin CEO Michel Rollier said: "I am very proud of the Michelin team, which knew how to fulfil the needs of Fernando Alonso and Renault.
“This has been an exciting season and the fierce competition between the two tyre companies provided an extra element of interest.
Michelin's excellent record in Formula One saw them take 102 wins in 215 starts – making them the third most successful tyre manufacturer in Grand Prix history.
Rollier dedicated their title successes to his predecessor Edouard Michelin, who was killed in a sailing accident on the Eve of the Monaco Grand Prix in May.
He added: “At this time, naturally, my thoughts turn to the late Edouard Michelin who was always the driving force behind Michelin's participation in Formula One.
“I would like to dedicate this year's double title success to him."
Cosworth's swansong was less successful as both Williams drivers took each other out on the first lap of the race.
Their 39-year association with the sport ended with a total of 176 wins from 645 races.
Engineering chief Chris Jilbert said: “Not quite the way that we had envisaged our current involvement in Formula One to draw to a close.
"It really does not seem possible that there will be no Cosworth-powered cars in the F1 paddock in 2007.
“It is an incredibly sad day for everyone who has been involved in making our Cosworth F1 engines so powerful, reliable and successful and I'm sure that these comments will be echoed by the numerous people up and down the pit lane who have either worked at, or with, Cosworth in the past.
"Let's hope that Cosworth can return to its rightful place on the grid in the future.
"My thanks go to everyone at Cosworth for all of their dedication, commitment and resolve through what has been a very difficult couple of months."

Same engines, same chasis, same engineers the list can go on and on. Any sport can or will thrive only if there are n + 1 factors which can effect the outcome.
