More internal team trouble for Crybaby Alonso
McLaren boss Ron Dennis says he is “disappointed” by Fernando Alonso’s failure to refute suggestions that the team favours one driver over the other.
The thorny issue of the driver hierarchy has poisoned the atmosphere within McLaren this year, ever since it became clear that Lewis Hamilton would not play a supporting role to Alonso and would instead be his main rival for the world title.
Dennis has been at pains to emphasise his commitment to giving both drivers equal equipment and opportunities – a stance that has infuriated Alonso, who apparently expected implicit or explicit number one status.
The Spaniard has spoken of feeling isolated within the team, although many believe that is a rod he has created for his own back by alienating mechanics and other key personnel through ill-advised comments.
At the Chinese Grand Prix on Thursday, Alonso was asked whether he felt he was being treated fairly by McLaren and whether the team might even be handicapping him by making subtle changes to his car so as to favour Hamilton.
His reply – “difficult question…I will not answer” – was hardly a ringing endorsement of the team’s integrity and did nothing to dispel the impression that his relationship with Dennis and McLaren has irrevocably broken down.
In Friday’s press conference Dennis vehemently rejected any suggestion that Alonso’s car had been ‘doctored’ and restated once again his commitment to parity of treatment.
“You introduced the word doctored,” he said.
“I don’t think that was a word that was used in the question or the answer to it.
“Going into the Japanese Grand Prix Fernando was two points behind Lewis.
“I think the grand prix season so far, in respect of our two cars, their reliability, their competitiveness and the way that our team has conducted itself, leaves nobody in Formula 1 with the view that we do anything other than provide equality to both of our drivers.
“There are numerous equality clauses in our contracts.
“They are reciprocal in both drivers’ contracts and it is a well known fact that we do not favour – even in very very difficult circumstances, even in the level of competitiveness and the spirit of competitiveness that sits between our drivers – we never will, never have and certainly are not favouring either driver at the moment.”
Dennis admitted Alonso’s equivocation in answering the question had disturbed him.
“This is a straight fight and I’m obviously disappointed that someone who really has all the knowledge should not be more direct and open with the response which is: equality is how we run our team,” he said.
But he refused to be drawn into speculation that Alonso will leave McLaren at the end of the season, insisting that such matters will not be broached until the title battle is over.
“Both Lewis and Fernando have contracts that extend beyond next year,” he said.
“We have made it abundantly clear to everyone involved inside and outside the team that we are focused on the balance of this season, trying to give equal opportunity for the drivers to compete for the world championship.
“That is the way it is going to be until after Brazil.
“If there’s necessity for discussion then that is the time it will take place, not before.”

Last i checked, it was his rookie teammate who was winning and Alonso was driving all over, except on the piece of black patch (also known as race track)

Re: More internal team trouble for Crybaby Alonso
your foolish blabbering is starting to get annoying.
your ferrari team is not exactly burning up the track and the guy doing much worse than alonso is Raiko and Massa, which just so happen to be in ferrari.
And Ferrari should have put Raiko at top if Mclaren destroyed him?
Anyway can we please end this constant nonsense where almost everything ends up in a bickering. And you are the one starting it this time. I had decided to stay off such threads, They are pure time waste as you indulge in your parochial bashing and so do i.

Never claimed otherwise either
McLaren's been a better car this season with a 'dramatic' improvement mid-season. As much as your and my views may differ on the sudden improvement, the fact remains that McLaren is disqualified from the Championship. If we are to look in black & white, its only justified that the drivers were disqualified too, given the fact that Alonso was 'aware' of wat he was holding which he shudnt be at all. He even used to gain leverage which is plain unethical. but as has been made clear by you, it doesnt matter even it is unethical as long as one doesn't get caught.
