It’s all doom and gloom in Spain at the moment, after the country endured one of its most disappointing weekends since Sir Francis Drake won a game of bowls before casually nipping out to give the Armada a good seeing to.
First up, Fernando Alonso was beaten to the flag at the British Grand Prix by Kimi Raikkonen. Then, not long after, Rafael Nadal lost out to a bloke from Switzerland in the Wimbledon tennis final.
However, what really miffed the Spanish was the size of the trophy given to Alonso for his hard-fought second place at Silverstone.
Said our man on the Costas: “For second place at races like Malaysia and Bahrain, you win something so jewel-encrusted and heavy it could put your back out just by picking it up.
“This little pot Fernando got on Sunday would not look out of place at a school sports day. It is an outrage!”
