Schu 'knew' Ferrari would win in '07
Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher says he isn't surprised to see Ferrari prevail after his 'dream team' of Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne and Paulo Martinelli moved on after 2006.
The 38-year-old Ferrari legend, who won five titles for the Scuderia and seven working alongside technical geniuses Brawn and Byrne, said that the depth of quality was what brought Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen their double-championship success in 2007.
That and the continued orchestration of team principal Jean Todt.
"All those people were just the frontline figures and obviously being in the team you know what is behind," Schumacher told Murray Walker during Sky's coverage of the Race of Champions at Wembley.
"For sure it has been more difficult and there was a question mark over how exactly it would be, but then when you have seen the guys working and how they are together…
"The most important thing that we never lost our spirit," he added.
"We have a family spirit and everybody pulls at the right strings to make things move forward without getting in political fights internally.
"This is thanks to Jean Todt, because the main person is still sitting there and knowing exactly how to pull what [string]. Obviously the base [of the team] is still very high quality people."
Schumacher says he intends to continue his role as team advisor and is fully enjoying his retirement from racing.
"I have to say very interesting things have opened up for me," he said.
"Being together with my family is one particular thing that I have enjoyed the most because the school holidays are fixed and those were the only times when we could have vacations together.
"It's nice to be home for them because usually I was testing, travelling, racing and doing events and usually planning for the holidays was always rather a compromise so these are the most beautiful moments that we can spend together.
"In the future I don't know but right now I am going to stay in my advisory role for Ferrari," he added.
"I am quite happy in this role and I want to be a happy family father and enjoy life."
