Sepang Qualifying - Ferrari lock out the front row

The rain threatened to be a factor this afternoon in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix but never materialised as expected allowing Ferrari to show their raw speed around the Sepang circuit.

Felipe Massa claimed pole position, the tenths of his career, with a lap almost half a second clear of team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. The F2008 has run flawlessly today and the team dominated qualifying leaving Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton very much second best on the second row of the grid.

Over at Force India and the practice pace relative to its rivals did not materialise in qualifying trim with Giancarlo Fisichella 17th and Adrian Sutil 20th. At the back, Takuma Sato will take comfort in out-qualifying Sutil and Super Aguri Honda team-mate Anthony Davidson.

More than just being on pole, what is ominous for Ferrari rivals is the margin it seemed to had over the rest of the field.

Ferrari look really really good. Been a long time since one single team dominated a qualifying session like this !!

yup thats true but these times dont take into account the amount of fuel onboard, are the times from the Q2 part of the session posted anywhere ? i remember seeing some 1:34's right

In all the races of Lewis that i have seen..I have never seen a Ferrari lighter than Mclaren.. Although i might be wrong for tomorrow but it seems that even with the position Ferrari is heavier than Mclaren...

Lewis will be the lightest of top 4.. Nevertheless if it rains tomorrow.. This Qualifying wont matter much

Heidfield who was fastest this morning could only manage 7..

Surprise was in the form of Trulli and Webber.. I dont think there is any chance for Renault this year.. They just dont have the pace...

I've a feeling that Massa is lightest of them all. It all depends on the start he gets. He shouldn't throw it away like he did in Australia.

and BTW, Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen have each been moved five places down the grid for blocking rival drivers in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
