Default Spanish Grand Prix 2007: Race Preview

Ferrari and Felipe Massa won the previous Grand Prix at Bahrain. But Alsono, Kimi and the rookie of the year Lewis Hamilton are tied on 22 points for the lead of the world championship.

There has been an extended break since Bahrain.

Extensive testing has been done at Catalunya and Ferrari have always been leading the timesheets.

Last week it was Felipe Massa who set the fastest time in testing.

This week it was Kimi. Ferrari will definitely go in as favourites. The only major surprise was David Coulthard setting a new lap record on Thursday May 3rd.

But otherwise, the Ferrari drivers have been dominating the tests.

Another important factor is that a new chicane has been introduced in one of the high speed sections of the track to facilitate overtaking. Earlier, the Spanish GP was all abt qualifying. Generally, your qualifying position would be the finishing position.

Not anymore. The chicane is meant to encourage overtaking and make the race more exciting for the spectators as well as the hundreds of millions of TV Viewers.

This also happens to be Alonso's home race and he will want to win this race badly. He says there is no additional pressure on him because he is the home hero, but he sure as hell will not want to fail.

He was usurped by his teammate in the last race. He will want to show who is boss this race.

Lewis Hamilton again has high expectations riding on his young shoulders. After the first 3 races of his career, he is in the lead for the world championship. No mean feat !!

Anyway, the race is going to be very very exciting.
