According to Tulane University expert Dr. David Blask, late-night exposure to light may diminish levels of a natural cancer-fighting hormone.
In the early 1980s, Blask was one of only a handful of scientists studying regulation of breast cancer development and growth by melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland during sleep in the darkness of night.
Melatonin modulates many of the body's natural circadian rhythms, including the sleep/wake cycle, and has been shown to have important anti-cancer properties. He was the first to demonstrate that nighttime doses of melatonin suppress human breast cancer cell growth.
Now, in the latest study, using specially designed photoperiodic chambers, which allow precise control over light exposure at night, he and his research team have demonstrated that manipulating light intensity at night, and thus melatonin production, dramatically affects human breast cancers growing in rats.
The research team's experiments show that reduced levels of melatonin coupled with higher levels of light at night boosted human breast cancer tumor growth in rats. If you cannot get 7-8 hours of sleep a night, make sure to take “power naps” during the day. Find a quiet, cozy corner and doze off for 25 minutes. Make sure you set the alarm because after 30 minutes, your body will go into deeper sleep mode and you’ll wake up groggy. ---------------------------------------------- |

Rep Power: 61 Nickels: 19,765.00 Bank: 0.00 | | Re: Sleep 7 hours or Die! The problem with me is that i get little sleep at night and then doze off in the afternoon for an hour  Really have to stop doing that. If you sleep in the afternoon for more than 20 mins, you feel terribly lazy

I should learn to do that power nap  my friend does that, 20 mins he sleeps and is back with full energy
I don't get sleep only these days  7 hours? where is the time

btw am into this power nap in the afternoon for past 10 months  , it helps me a lot before hitting the Gym, otherwise i feel terrible out there

Rep Power: 39 Nickels: 1,971.00 Bank: 0.00 | | Re: Sleep 7 hours or Die! Err....  I someday sleep for 5 hours..someday for 4,and then someday for 6..  I have no fixed sleeping schedule.. Sometimes i even sleep standing in trains,on my way to my workplace..
Dont remember the last time i slept for more then 6 hours..
