High Stakes Event: Manchester City vs Manchester United (Football: English Premiership)
The 149th Manchester derby kicks off on Sunday at the City of Manchester Stadium with both the teams needing early victories in order to keep up with their league expectations.
United will be keen to maintain their superiority over City, with United winning 52 of the 135 matches played in the league. The win will be more important with the less than desired start by Manchester United in the defense of their title. A 0-0 draw to Reading and subsequent wins by Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea has meant that United start the new season behind their title rivals.
While the team has looked solid in the defense, it is the attack that has got manager Sir Alex Ferguson worried. With Rooney out for nearly two months and injuries to Saha and Solskjaer, Ferguson has been left with a single striker in form of the newly signed Carlos Tevez.
But with a all the other members of the first team fit to play, United fans will be hoping for yet another victory over their arch city rivals. United had completed the double over Manchester City last season, winning 3-1 at Old Trafford while defeating City 1-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium.
However things have changed drastically at City with the takeover of Thaksin Shinawatra. The arrival of former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has led to huge amounts of money being spent in the summer to strengthen all areas of the team. City got off to the best possible start with an impressive 2-0 victory over West Ham in their first match of the season. Eriksson will be looking to exploit United's problems upfront and will be on the attack throughout the match.

Its not just Ronnie or rooney buddy. Remember even solskjaer and park are also out with injuries. We can't bank on scholes for goals everytime. Tevez has had a real bad start at old trafford. Chris eagles lacks experience while nani and owen hargreaves too have had an ordinary starts for ManU.
