The movie starts with the scene where Kabir Khan(Shahrukh) is shown taking the penalty for Team India in the Finals of Hockey World Championship. He misses the shot & India loses to Pakistan the World Cup. He's shown shaking the hand of Pakistani Captain in the Team Spirit, but the media shows that gratitude in a different angle, stating Kabir Khan to be a "traitor" who sold his country. Public burning effigies are shown realistically. He leaves the area/gully where he stays. The emotions here a high & touchy when he leaves his home with his mother.
After 7 years, the scene shifts to Delhi in the meeting room of Women's Hockey team association. The Head of Association blabbers about how Women's team cant play Hockey & would only be suitable for them to stay in kitchen. As they are searching for Team's Coach, Kabir shows interest & promises them to win the World Cup.
The comeback of Shahrukh after 7 years has been shown wonderfully. always thinking about Hockey nothing else.
He joins in as the coach who is given 3 months to prepare a gang of 16 feckless and irresponsible girls into one single dream team of 16 superb and dependable players for Indian National Women's Hockey Team, Jiss Mein states Ke Naam Na Sunai Dete Hai, Na Dhikai Dete Hai, Bus Ek Mulkh Ka Naam Sunai Deta Hai, I-N-D-I-A.
The introduction of Team India is shown comically & breathes fresh air in the tensed moments shown earlier. I liked the intro of KOMAL CHAUTALA(Chirashi Rawat) from Haryana. It truly shows how much the sport is into them. As the team is complete. There are always a nuisance/goonda in the midst of good people. That's played by BINDIYA NAIK (Shilpa Shukla) from Railways. Amazingly, we easliy get familiar with these 16 players/actors. It was like we know them since ages. This is how they are gonna behave....
Many things happen during the Training Camp, it goes to that height that Kabir Khan is asked to resign from the post. The Coaching is shown extremely realistic, no artificial show offs here. The injuries look like injuries. You'll have to watch the movie to enjoy the Training Camp session.
As the Training Camp gets over, the head of the association rejects from sending the team to World Cup, just because there are no sponsors for the team. But Kabir Khan gets them outta harms way by staging a Match between Men's Team & Women's Team. If Kabir's Team loses they are outta race for World Cup & if they win they go to World cup. Shockingly the Women's Team loses to Men's Team but due to Excellent Game the Women's Team is appreciated by the Men's Team & then slowly by everyone. Hence they go to World Cup.
Australia Here We Come !!!
World Cup is staged in Australia. First Group Match with 6 times champ Australia. Team India loses to them 7-0. Coach frustrated, team tired. But fire is burning inside. Next match
Do or Die between India & Great Britain. India wins this match by 1-0. Goes to next round.
For all the stuff which I am not mentioning, which happened during the matches, Please go n watch the MOVIE. Because those cannot be understood in words
Team's Final Match again with Australia. This Time Team is ready with their hard practice & 6-7 matches experience. The games gets tie 2-2. Game goes to Extra time, but it doesn't suffice. Penalties/Shootout have to be taken to determine the victor. These Scenes are Best Described in the movie.
The Scene has been depicted as if the match is goin on live in Australia & we're watching it on a big screen. Awesome Tension within the team & audience (dats us). Audience in theatres shouting the players name & asking them to cheer up & give their best shot. The atmosphere was like INDIA v/s AUSTRALIA Final Cricket Match. What happens next is known to everybody.
INDIA WINS THE WORLD CUP for the first time.
The movie ends with lots of other stories ending & beginning. Kabir Returns to his home. The ending scene was at its emotional high.
The notable performance -
Shahrukh Khan (Kabir Khan): Astounding performance. Second Best performance since Swades.
Sagarika Ghatge (Preeti Sabharwal): Again a newcomer performing better than these today's newcomers.
Vidya Malvade (Vidya Sharma): Last forgettable film's of her were Inteha/Mashooqa etc....She emerges as an Actor, not a Bikini woman.
Shilpa Shukla (Bindiya Naik): A Villian at the beginning, but the Hero in the end.
Chitrashi Rawat (Komal Chautala): Haryanvi Jat..... Hilarious acting.
Others to mention were -
Tanya Abrol (Balbir Kaur) Punjab di Kudi
Nisha Nair (Soimoi Kerketa) Jharkand born & brought up
there were many other performances who were noticable & would stay in the back of your mind but the above said characters would live with you hamesha.
The movie really touches your heart when Sharukh utters this dialogue on the eve of final Match – "Aaj Pehli Baar Dekh Raha Hoon Kisi gore Ko Tiranga lehrate Hue'. A movie with such an awe-inspiring storyline that would make you glued to your seat from the point the curtain raises until the credit's roll over.
Sharukh as Kabir Khan ones again proves the fact that he is and will be one among the finest actor in the history of Bollywood and sends a message that he can be more than the usual chocolate boy role of 'Raj'. And it's not only SRK who takes the centre stage in the movie, Director Shimit Amin has done justice to roles of all other girls, with some girls like Bindia Naik (Shilpa Shukla), Preeti Sabarwal (Segarika Ghatge), Koumal Chaultala (Chitrashi Rawat) and Vidya Sharma (Vidya Malwade) delivering a real laudable performance. To conclude my review I wanna say that, truly this movie is a greatest tribute that any Bollywood movie can ever bestow to any sport, a movie that affirms the fact that the females are no way inferior to males. It just surpassed all the expectation I had about this movie & Shahrukh as an Actor.
I Give this MOVIE a 9/10.
