I would keep it brief...
I had seen History Boys, but this movie was special. Based on a true story, it got me to set aside my notions about movies with teachers inspiring students to achieve the impossible. (See the pic at the end of the movie, before the credits, to know what Emily Gruwell really achieved amid the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles.
In many ways, Gruwell wanted to be like her dad, wanted to do something that would ultimately help the society and people living in it. She wanted to personify him through her teachings. This meant, letting go of her marriage, and yet continuing to do what she loved the most, teach.
The movie shows, what you can do with kind words, what you can achieve with patience and tolerance and persistence. Mrs. G turned around the kids within one year (BTW, they looked too old for be in sophomore), now it wasnt about war, it wasnt about protecting your territory, it wasnt about protecting your own, it was, about being yourself, and do what what is right.
Personally, i really liked the movie, for we as students, forget that no matter what we do in life, its what our teachers taught us, will always be a part of us.
