Synopsis
Meet Jai Singh Rathore - 'Rats' (Imran Khan), the most non-violent Rajput either side of the Aravallis. And meet, if you dare, the violent and passionate Aditi Mahant - 'Meow' (Genelia D'Souza). Whatever you do, do not pick a fight with her. She scratches. And abuses. If you do get into a scrap, take cover till Jai arrives, as he alone can calm our snarling wildcat.
Jai thinks Aditi's parents should have rinsed her mouth with soap when she was a child. Aditi thinks that Jai is the biggest coward she has ever encountered. There is nothing Rajput-like in him. Heaven has mixed up its apples and oranges.
Rotlu weeps secretly for Aditi. Bombs' heart explodes for Jai. Jiggy applies golden mascara to his hair. Shaleen… well, she's probably the only one who doesn't seem a few notes short of a concerto.
Jai and Aditi are perfect for each other (in some odd, distorted way, impossible to understand). Friends know this. Parents know this. Everybody knows this. But do Rats and Meow know?
Can two people ever, truly, know the secrets of their hearts? And how do you know it's the real thing? Will they find love in each other? When do you know it's love?
Adding to this, a quarrelling portrait and many problems ahead...
Story
Almost 20 years ago there was Qayamat se Qayamat Tak which had two tennages lovers and parental opposition acting as an obstacle. Now this time around its Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na,written and directed by Abbas Tyrewala is a simple,fun-filled & refreshingly different LOVE story and minus the parental obstacle

SPOILER WARNING! - Spoiler Warning
The movie starts with Rotlu,Bombs,Shaleen and Jiggy along with his would be GF Maala going to the Airport for reciving Jai and Aditi. Then starts the story with the friends narrating Jai-Aditi's simple but funfilled love story.
Jai,the most non-violent Rajput, has dreams of Rajput riding Horse everytime but his mom tries to distance him from all the violence stuff. Then there is Aditi who is the tomboy to the core but still has that innocence of a girl.Jai and Aditi were the best of friends and both cant see each other sad.Together along with others, the whole bunch make a great gang of singing, dancing, joking and joshing buddies who freak out in college.
Jai's mother(Ratna Pathak Shah) is the nonviolent bahu of Rajput khandan who runs away to keep his son away from violence and portrays his father(Naseeruddin Shah),whos speaks from a photo frame,as the most non-violent Rajput and tells Jai to follow him instead of the truth that his father was the true Rajput and wants his son to follow him and belives he will one day be a true Rajput by completing the three challenges to become a Rathore Man.Then there is Aditi's brother,Amit(Pratiek Babbar) who hates her group of friends alot since he feels she was away from him because of them.
After that their college life comes to an end and Jai is called at Aditi's house by her parents for a marriage proposal, who think they both are in love but instead he thinks it was an interview for a job.Later on when the misunderstanding clears up they set out to find partners for each other and in comes Meghna (Manjari Phadnis),who is rescued by Jai[i](non-violently) from the hands of two cowboys(Arbaaz and Sohail). After Jai falls for Meghna, things changes in the whole group especailly for Aditi, who feels Jai is getting distant from her and this disturbs her alot. Then,Aditi too sets out to find her Mr. Right who should be Tough Guy unlike a fattu like Jai and she finds him in Sushant[Ayaz Khan],a broad-shouldered ‘man’ with a roving eye. Now,this makes Jai feel that he is losing Aditi and then he realises that he loves Aditi and then misunderstanding creeps up between Aditi and Sushant and ends in a fight leaving Aditi bruised and she decides to move to US to distance herself from this mess. When Jai learns about Aditi being hurt, this brings out the Rathore in Jai and his ends up bashing Sushant and lands in the Jail completing two of the requirements. In Jail he faces the old nemisis of his mother Inspector Wagmare(Paresh Rawal) and then Jai meets up with the two cowboys, who turn out to be his brothers and they help in get out of the Jail and then he is off to the Airport on a horse(completin the third and final requirement) and in the climax its the same old beaten-to-death scenario of the hero stopping his ladylove from leaving for the US and thats the story of Jai n Aditi..
Acting
Every member of the cast stands out, but the film belongs to Imran and Genelia. The acting is top-notch all around in the movie.Imran has been presented as the boy-next-door and that works in his favor.Imran impresses tremendously with his acting skills and sometimes reminds of Aamir. He perfectly fits the bill of a Rajput who can’t even kill a fly, forget about punching someone or going to a jail.Genelia adds freshness to her scenes and is a fine blend of femininity and tomboyishness and her spontaneity makes her even morre special.Even their friends are great.Alishka Varde does well as Bombs;Karan Makhija adds character as the pessimistic Rotlu;Nirav Mehta is excellent as Jignesh with his typical Gujju accent along with Sugandha Garg as the spirited, nickname-giving Shaleen, full of spunk. Each compliments the other well.Manjari is a complete natural and very effective.Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseeruddin Shah fights reminds you of Ashok Saraf-Priya Tendulkar relationship in the popular comedy show HUM PAANCH.Paresh Rawal comes in a few scenes does a great job and Arbaaz and Sohail are ok but irritating a bit
Music
A.R Rahman being the music director do I need to say more.Starting off with Tu Bole then off to two Chartbusters Kabhi Kabhi Aditi and then the awesome dance number Papu Cant Dance. The music that blends into the narrative whether it’s played in background or in foreground. And the sogns are just great
Direction
Abbas Tyrewala, the man behind the fun Munnabhai series, Main Hoon Na and Maqbool among others, has a great delightful directorial debut.Every technical aspect of the film is honed to perfection.Cinematography is vividly excellent along with the casting.
Script
Though their is nothing extra ordinary in the film but still its this extremely simple n uncomplicated love tale, that never goes over the top and has that xtra thing that makes it different from others.
Overall,Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na,is a kool film n refreshing entertainer which will be loved by its target audience -- the youth and it leaves with you a smile on your face even if you were gloomy at the start
