PLOT:
SPOILER WARNING! - Movie Plot - Spoiler Warning !!!
Love Aaj
London, San Francisco, Delhi - 2009. Jai [Saif Ali Khan] and Meera [Deepika Padukone] is a modern-day couple in London. They are very happy together, but do not believe in tying each other down. So when life pulls them in different directions, they decide to call off their relationship, since long-distance relationships, in their opinion, don't work.
Love Kal
Delhi, Calcutta - 1965. Veer Singh [Rishi Kapoor] is struck by a thunderbolt when he sees Harleen for the first time. He travels a thousand kilometers by train to stand under her balcony, only to have a glimpse of her face. And yet not speak a word with her.
Love Aaj Kal Veer does not understand how Jai can treat matters of the heart without passion. Jai does not understand how Veer Singh could have been so naive and silly about Harleen in his youth. But as both stories unfold, we realize that the process of relationship might be different in different eras, but the experience of being in love remains the same.
REVIEW
Many expectations are fulfilled, as Love Aaj Kal is a very complex story to tell. Its completely Director's Show and no one else, its like if you missed even 5 mins of the movie, you may get confused with the plot The screenplay is kept tight, but sometimes get dull in between. It takes too much time to grasp the Plot. Both the Stories are running concurrently, hence it is diffcult to maintain grip with the plot.
The Director - Imtiaz Ali - manages to keep you entertained for 2 and half hours. He has tried to depict the True Current Gen Love, how it develops and matures. There is no masala or extra fat in the movie, it is to the point and avoids lovey dovey sequences of Boy meets the Girl and all that. Many might think, this is too forward, but thats how the Current Gen Works The story is generic, but Imtiaz has handled the screenplay part well to turn it into an interesting fare. The dialogues are very everyday types and you will relate to it very soon
Saif in Present is very much comfortable and at Home in this version. He has matured in his acting an it shows towards the end of the movie. Though he does a pretty well job in Past Version of Rishi Kapoor, it feels as if he was trying to breakout from his turbaned role He was just too smooth in Present role.
Deepika has done a marvelous job and can be easily termed as her Career best performance. From the start to end, her character develops and she eaily potrays the role without any difficulty. I would like to point out on scene, in the climax, when Saif calls her to come down from her working area, the moment she breaks into tears, connects you with the feeling she is giong through at that moment. She can actually ACT
The actress who plays Harleen (saif's past love) does a good job and is depicted as true Punjaban in that era. She is cute and adorable in the small screen time she gets.
Rishi Kapoor is Natural and his Climax surprise is really too good His dialogues reminds you someone elder trying to explain you how to go about in life
MUSIC
The soundtrack are already chartbusters and the picturisation of the songs makes it complete circle. Although i felt that Twist song could have been better, but you cant expect Saif to match the beats
Deepika in Ahun Ahun is wonderful I sat through to the credits to see her grooving
RATING 8/10 for the Direction and Two great performances
BOXOFFICE
The Movie will open to a full house, as it was prominently seen in UAE theatres since yesterday Obviously it is meant for metros and multiplexes, but the Past storyline will keep the non-metro cinema goer too, though it is in small amount
You have to applaud Imtiaz Ali's effort to match the storyline of Past & Present and match it in the end to have a similar ending. :hatsoff: to him. He is progressing too well from Socha Na Tha and Jab We Met. A Must watch for everyone, and dont worry you can watch it your Family
8/10 Is Anda the Next Taran Andarsh and here was one of my friends who said he needed his money back
Even Hurry Putter was bakwas alteast that's what Three hardcore fans of Hurry putter among my frnds who had gone to watch first-day First show said to me

I Had really high expectations from this one but I am left disappointed. I have mainly 3 issues with this film :
1. Deepika : I am sorry but she just cannot act. No emotions, idiotic expressions and pathetic dialog delivery. She was looking so ridiculously out of place delivering those dialogs. A better actress could have done wonders as some dialogs were really quite good. Her character was almosy similar to Preity's character in Salaam Namaste, if only she could have acted like preity.
2. Editing : It sucked. The transition between the old and the new story is so abruptly done that it actually gets annoying. Just when you are starting to enjoy the good old 60's era romance, the scene cuts to the present day saif blaberring about how the past sucks. Then one moment they are in delhi and the next second we see them on the streets of London. It gets very confusing at times and poor editing is the one to be blamed for this.
3. Second half : Not only is the second half not funny but it actually tries to defy logic. Picture this : Deepika marries her present bf only to realize on her Suhaag raat that she has committed a mistake. Then she goes on to say to the groom that she will apologize later for marrying him as now she has to rush to her ex Bf who is in london. WTF!! Who does that? And apparently the groom is very cool about it too.
The film has nothing new to offer. Its the same old ghissi piti love story. Some dialogs are really good but others fail to make an impact. Saif ali khan is very impressive. He is likable as both the cool dude of today and as the confident Sardaar of yesteryears. Rishi kapoor does well and so does the actress playing Harleen. But its deepika who is the eye sore. Not that she looks bad but her dialog delivery just doesn't have that punch. The best part of the film are the songs. Each one of them is worth listening to, especially "Ajj din chadeya". But there placement is messy and interupts the proceedings.
Overall, Love aaj kal is a major letdown. It could have been so much better had it not been for the poor editing and deepika. I would still recommend a one time watch though but don't spend too much on it.
