After watching masterpieces of Nolan's work which included, Batman begins, and Memento. I was a lil sceptical whether the movie will live upto its expectations.
And was I surprised, as the movie turned out to be beautiful, second best movie of the year after Departed. Beautifully shot period story about the rivalry of two magicians in the late 19th Century, the lead characters played by Hugh Jackman, and Christian Bale. Both are seasoned actors, and gave sterling performance in the movie. Special credit to Christian Bale who has acted just beautifully, I always thought Batman Begins was a one off movie of his, but he has proved detractors wrong here, playing a magician who has shades of grey. Micahel Caine is at his usual best playing a trickmaster's role here.
The story lives to its period, characters are consumed by professionaly jealousy, which ruins their personal life as well as their sanity. Beautiful screenplay depicting the intricasies of a magicians tricks, and how fiercely are they guarded. I will not divulge much on the storyline, but its a movie to watch for sure.
he only shortcomings I feel, was the ending which I felt was a little too far fetched, but thats a minor dent in an overall awesome movie.
Would give it 9/10 ----------------------------------------------
