FILIPINO legend Efren Reyes suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of American Tony Crosby in a huge shock on day one of the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championships.

Reyes, who won the 1999 title and is hottly tipped to lift the trophy again this year, was beaten 8-7 in a thrilling contest in front of a capacity crowd at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Crosby said: "Playing Efren first match has helped me a lot because you want to play the best player in the opener so you know where you stand. My chances of reaching the knockout stages have been given a huge boost.”

yeah i saw this match!! and oh boy wat a match!! if you ever wonder why reyes is called "The Magician" you just gotta watch his shots, and this match was no different. With an incredible shot(well peeps said it was a fluke) in the 8th(score was on 3-4)rack, it just kinda proved once again why reyes is hotly tipped to win this year's title(he won back in 1999)!

but well good for crosby, beating the best does do a whole lot of good for you !!

update - efren reyes vs roy apancho(hope i got the names right)... 8-6 score..
but here's the drama..
reyes on 7-6... roy's playing.. cleared the table.but coudlnt put the 9th ball in ..
and it was a pretty easy shot for reyes.. so roy conceded the match... but here`s the drama.. reyes couldnt put the ball in... llooooolzzzzz!! ... so if roy hadnt conceded, the match would still be on, and both men would be on the hill 7-7!!

man as the commentator said " what is it abt efren reyes matches that they produce drama everytime" soo frigging true"!!

and yeah feel sorry for crosby, the guy who beat reyes. he`s out of the tournament even though he won 2 out of the three matches, but fell shot of one rack from roy at 20-21.
