Sania ranks 30 in the latest wta rankings... this is one thing i am unable to fathom.

the rankings are actually based on comparison of yourself with previous year the same period and the same tournaments.

so if you have shown excellent performances and won a handsome points last year, when this year the same perod comes and if you dont measure up to last years performance your points are decreased accordingly.

Infact player gain their rankings by earning points, and to maintain that points they have to defend it.

that was the reason sania went out of top 50 last year because of injuries and slump in form. Now as she is performing well she does not have to defend any last year points she is jumping the ladder.

If next year she cant perform like present year she will plummet again, while consistent top players keep gaining and defending points so they stay atop.

My 2 cents as i understood the points system.

you dont need to win any tournaments. Even without winning any major tournaments, you can be in the top 15 or so.

Sania has played very well tha past couple of weeks...hope she can keep the momentum going.

yea anna managed to reach top 10 without ever winning a single tourney
it was suggested if it was a top 10 tennis rank or model rank for her

I hope its not the same with Sania.
