The draw for the UEFA Champions League first knockout round will take place on Friday 15 December

Fascinating ties
Among the eight group winners and eight runners-up who will be in the hat at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, are the three most successful clubs in the history of the competition - nine-time winners Real Madrid CF, six-time champions AC Milan and a Liverpool FC side who lifted the European Champion Clubs' Cup for a fifth occasion in 2005. Holders FC Barcelona are among the second seeds along with two other teams who have twice been kings of the continent, FC Internazionale Milano and Porto.

Draw conditions
The draw respects the following principles:
* Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other.
* The winners and runners-up of the same group must not be drawn against each other.
* Group winners must not be drawn against each other.
* Group runners-up must not be drawn against each other.
* All group runners-up will play their first-leg matches at home.

hmm , can somebody explain the selection process ? the way I see , Manc U will play against Real Madrid ??

^ Yeah, ManU managed to thrash out a deal with Helsingborgs to secure a 3 month loan for Larsson, for cover for Rooney and Saha.Saha is in blistering form right now!!

And the format for the knockouts is that the top team from one group vs second team of another group i.e. Manchester United can be drawn to play any of the group runners-up except celtic (since both are from the same group ).

^^ Phew! thank goodness (for Larsson and for not facing stupid Celtic again)
