As it happened,early on Sunday morning September 19, 1999, Jacqui(Jacqueline Saburido) - then 20 years old - and four friends were on their way home from a birthday party. And on the other end,Reggie Stephey, an 18-year-old high school student, was on his way home from drinking beer with some buddies. On a dark road on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, Reggie's SUV veered into the Oldsmobile carrying Jacqui and the others. Two passengers in the car were killed at the scene and two were rescued with deep injuries.
Within minutes, the car caught fire. Jacqui was pinned in the front seat on the passenger side. She was burned over 60% of her body; no one thought she could survive,....but she had a day with destiny & miraculously she survived the burning hell for over 45 minutes..& So Jacqui Lived for the other day!
Though she survived the day,but her EXTREME BURN INJURIES took the Natural toll - She was in Hell's bondage living her life like this till Now!Her body & hands were so badly burned that all of her fingers had to be amputated. She lost her hair, her ears, her nose, her left eyelid and much of her vision. She has had more than 50 operations since the crash and has many more to go.
::OMG::

With her Father in 2000

Getting treatment.

Three months after accident.

Without a left eyelid Jacquie needs eye drops to keep her vision.
In June 2001 Reggie Stephey was convicted of two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of Jacqui's two friends. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $20,000.

Now 20 years old, he cannot forgive himself for driving drunk on that night three years ago.He's more than aware of devastating Jacqueline Saburidos life & also of his too.

Not everyone who gets hit with a car dies. This picture was taken 4 years after the accident and the doctors are still working on Jacqueline, whose body was covered with 60% severe burns.
JACQUI'S LIFE NOW
Medical treatment for Jacqui's extensive injuries continues. She and her father, who has been by her side since the crash occurred, now live in Louisville, Kentucky where specialists are working with Jacqui to restore all her vision and the use of her hands. Thanks to surgeons who rebuilt the eyelid that she lost in the fire and the cornea transplant in 2003, Jacqui is now able to see out of her left eye.
In 2003 Jacqui completed her studies in intensive English and she is now able to speak and write in English. When she can, Jacqui continues to tell her story through news interviews and speak out against drunk driving.
Jacqui appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show on November 17, 2003. She was also interviewed on the Australian 60 Minutes on March 14, 2004, and featured in a Discovery Health documentary on face transplants. Jacqui continues to inspire millions with her bravery, her positive outlook, and her tireless campaign to educate people on drunk driving. Oprah said that Jacqui was the one person she had met who defined inner beauty.
Let's make as many people as we can aware of the consequences of drinking & driving.SO NEVER Forget - Driving N Drinking Dont MIX!!!& Dont touch that steering if u cant C the Road ahead!
