Thumbs Up A Trip to the Holy Land - Israel!

Finally, here I am. With a Travel Escape about one of my most memorable trips!

I am writing this one after almost 8 mnths of the trip(Due to some technical problems! ) Anyways, this Escape will span over posts, since it can not be accomodated in one single post.

Firstly, I will like to put a little background about the trip. This one was supposed to be a trip for Knowledge transfer between me and my project team in Israel. Weekdays were for these KT sessions, and weekends were for the fundoo Masti sessions! We were a group of 10-15 young indian guys nd gals who were bursting with enthusiasm to explore the Holy Land!!!

NOTE: In this trip, my cam was Not wrkin... Please bear with the quality of pics...

My stay was in 'Tel Aviv'. The City of springs(This is the meaning of its name in Hebrew). The city actually rocks. Night life and sky-kissin buildings, the fantabulous beach and everything that a megacity should have!

Have a look how the beggars look there!

Default Weekend 1: Golan Heights

Golan heights! The place where Israeli and Syrian forces clashed! This place is strategically important. It is at an elevation, and if israel or syria place their troops there, there is no chance that other nation's troop can enter their nation since it is the only way in between 2 nations!

During World War 1, England conquered the Golan from the Turks and it became part of Syria when it became an independent country in 1945. Up until 1967, the Syrians controlled this entire area and it was here where they set up their military bases and fortifications. From here they would shoot at the Israeli kibbutzim and at Israeli fishing boats down below. The Israelis suffered greatly during that period and it was only on the fourth day of the Six Day War (June 1967), that Israel was able to capture these heights from the Syrians and put a stop to all the constant shelling. Jewish settlement was renewed and many beautiful villages were built here. Most are involved in agriculture, dairy farming, industry and raising livestock.

In first 2-3 pictures, the left part of the snap, is Syria. Right side is Israel.

EDIT: My net connection is pathetically slow, can not upload a single inage... Will be posting more pics in the thread once *technical problem* is resolved!

Default Old city of Jaffa !

Jaffa, also known as Old City, is a Palestinian Arab city, which lies in the West central of Palestine, on the Mediterranean Sea. Jaffa is military occupied by Israel since 1948, and is part of the unified city Tel Aviv-Yafo since 1950. Founded by the Canaanites in the 18 th century B.C.E., Jaffa has been historically important largely because of its port (which was closed in 1965 to merchant shipping, when the port of Ashdod was completed). The small old port is used as a fishing harbor and became an international marina. From archaeological discoveries and ancient documents we learn that Jaffa existed as a port city some 4,000 years ago, serving Egyptian and Phoenician sailors in their sea voyages. Historians belive that Jaffa is the only port in the world which can boast uninterrupted inhabitation throughout it's entire existence. The Canaanites named the city jaffa which meant the beautiful.

The city actually looks like an arab city. Resembles one of those cities in AOE campaign(Saladin, namely).

Sadly, I am short on part of Pictures... Here are a few ones which were clicked, though...

Default Jerusalem: The Blood-thirsty City

Jerusalem: The capital of Israel. This city has been reason for war between Islamics and Christians, because it is birthplace of Jesus Christ(and, the place where Jesus was crucified) and It is having the third holiest Mosque after makkah and Madina for Islam. Followers of both the religions have pour their blood to gain control over the city and ironically, none of them control the city as of now...

Well, first we went to Holocaust Museum of jerusalem. The museum is built in memory of the Jewish people who passed away during second world-war merely because they were jewish. Their belongings, the videos, images of starved people made us really sick... The whole museum was very very depressing site. Jewish people who lost their family or loved ones, visit this place and literally start crying... Anyways, cams were not allowed inside, so cudnt bring more snaps

Then, we headed to Bethlehem. The place where Jesus Christ was born. Typical Palestinian region. We were asked NOT to go there. But who cares? The star shape in one of the following pics is exactly the place where jesus was born! Man, I still cant believe i saw the place, i touched the place, where Jesus christ was born! Then we followed the Holy path, the one on which christ walked with the Cross on his back... Was a wonderful experience... Also, we visited tomb of mother marry, visited a few nearby churches and also saw the place where Jesus was crucified.

In the end, we visited Wailing wall. The mosque entry was forbidden for us, so cudnt fet inside, though...
