Well, well, well!!!
Here I am with a travel escape!
Navy pier, chicago!!!
As many ppl know, I was supposed to goto Niagra, but due to some reasons, that plan got pwnd! So, we decided to goto Chicago, instead!
Navy Pier is a large pier on Lake michigan near Streeterville, close to Chicago's downtown. Originally known as the Municipal Pier nr 2, it is one of two piers called for in Daniel Burnham's 1909 Chicago plan. The other pier was never built.
Construction started May 1914 and in 1916 it was opened to the public. At the time it was the world's largest pier, 292 ft wide and 3000ft long (89m x 914m).
The pier was designed as a shipping and entertainment area. In its first decade, the Municipal Pier was successfully attracting both visitors and ships. It was also temporarily used as a military facility during the first world war.
In 1927 the pier was renamed Navy Pier in honor of World War I veterans. It would turn out to be a prophetic name change, as the Navy Pier served as a naval training facility during the second World War.
The Navy Pier is home to many attractions, some may vary depending on the season. For a comprehensive list, prices and schedules have a look at Navy Pier's own website:
Navy Pier... . Here's an overview of attractions found at the pier:
- The most eye-catching is the 148 ft Ferris Wheel. It was modeled after the first ferris wheel built for the 1893 World Columbian Exposition.
- Near the Ferris Wheel is a 44ft high musical carousel with 36 hand-painted animals.
- The skyline stage, a 100ft high vaulted roof structure, is used as an ice skating rink during wintertime and as a 1500-seat theater during summer.
Other attractions are an 18 hole miniature golf course, a funhouse maze, a 40ft high wave swinger and an IMAX theater.
- The Navy Pier is also a starting point for many boat trips. You have ample choice: You can take a trip on a 148ft high, four-masted schooner or you can hop on one of the 4 seadogs reaching speeds of up to 25 knots. Architecture cruises and water taxis are also available. You can also opt to take a romantic dinner cruise and you can even charter ships. One of the boats you can charter is the historic 'El Presidente' which was used by US presidents.
- You can also rent some of the pier's areas, including the English Garden Tent and the Crystal Gardens, a one-acre indoor glass atrium with more than 70 palm trees.
As the admin has askd me to do a write up for the trip, here it goes! (Who knows? I'd get another neg rep!

)
Mah place is some 140 miles away from chicago... We went by 1 and in 2 hrs, we were able to
touch chicago... But as usual with Mega cities, it took us 1 more hour to reach the destination!
The place of destination was, as seen in pics, Navy Pier... The place is right on shore of Michigan Lake and it is Cool!!! A very colorful and lively place to be! Lots of shops, plenty of rides, and a bunch of food-places! WHat else u require for a nice hang-out, ehh?
Initially, we decided to explore the place, without spending a lot of time to a single place... Nd that initial walk-thru itself took some 1 hr!
Then, we went for a ride in Michigan lake... Damn, the speedboats were too damn expensive!

The ride was worth, though... A view of Chicago skyline from lake was too good! Luvd it!
After that, went to a place called 'Beer garden'. Live rock Music+Heineken beer makes a good combo, ehh!

I luvd this place in particular!

Anyways, after some 4 cans of beer plus music, I had to leave the place as friends almost kicked me to get goin!
Chiks with us did some usual(Boring!) shopping and we guys enjoyd some good *sights* around!

After that, went to enjoy the Huge Ferris wheel which moves really slow and kinda gets boring unless u r in a good company! Neways, after that, it was almost 9, so we just went back near the dock area and found a good place to sit... In some half an hour, the mesmerizing fireworks started... Man, the fireworks were too damn good!
In all, a fundoo experience... And the sight of chicago in night was truly stunning... Man, I luvd that city... Wud luv ending up there!
Thats it from me as of now! Signin off!
