An absolute stunning marvel of modern day engineering. Cutting right through the mighty Himalayas and reaching some of the hardest to reach places on earth, Tibet railway project is one hell of a project. The train to "the roof of the world". Over the last four years, 35,000 workers have laid down track in bitter cold and at high altitude. The project cost 33 billion yuan (approximately €3.46 billion)
Enjoy!!
Inside the train:
The route:
The Lhasa Railway Station in Tibet, now home to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
Lhasa: A view of the railway station set before a stunning background of Himalayas mountains.
The very first train makes its way through the mountains near Lhasa. The project is a controversial engineering feat meant to bind the unique Himalayan region to the rest of China.
The 1,140-kilometer (710-mile) line crosses some of the world's most forbidding terrain, climbing mountain passes up to 5,000 meters (16,500 feet) high and passing over ground that is frozen year-round.
Tunnels and bridges: Train "Qing 1" emerges from a tunnel in Kunlun Mountain. At 1,686 meters, it is the longest tunnel through frozen soil in the world.
The train passes the La Se
Te bridge near Lhasa.
Another bridge: this time the train crosses a viaduct outside of Gomud, in Qinghai province, allowing spectacular views for its passengers.
Snow-covered summits tower in the background as the train crosses the Tibetan grasslands near Lhasa.
