The building of the Three Gorges Dam, in Hubei province, is modern China's most ambitious construction project, and one of the most controversial in the world. It is also China's largest construction project since the building of the Grand Canal in the 10th century. The total electric generating capacity of the dam will reach 22,500 megawatts, at which point it will be the largest hydro-electric power station in the world by capacity.
The above is the overall plan of the dam.
The price tag for the project, which began 13 years ago: $25 billion, the news agency says. It is widely said to be the largest dam in the world.
Dunno about you but i was pretty scared when i was real young with any bridge that passed over a flowing river. I always had the notion that one strong gust of wind and the damn thing will collapse
Now i have seen too many and you tend to appreciate awesome engineering that goes into building one. Three Gorges itself, inspite of the enormous environmental damage it has done, is still a superb feat. If you consider the destruction that the Yangtze brings about every year in China with flooding and this can actually control that, you really do appreciate what a great impact this would have. Personally i wold have loved to work on this construction project

the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
