Countersteering

Does anyone know the concept of countersteering? dont google for countersteering and honestly reply if you knew or not. then proceed to google

this applies to bike riders only.....

See any half decent Grand Prix and you would see it in action in roughly every corner

Its a very interesting and a very important concept, IMO all bike riders MUST know it

It will sound absurd how it happens. but the fact is, it does happen, and if you're aware of it, it'll save your life one day

hmm... i had read on xbhp abt it and experimented with it..
isnt it ... while taking a turn instead of turn your handle bar inside , you turn your handle (only slightly though) to the outside or in the opposite direction to which your taking a turn, enabling you to take a corner at higher speed then you could normally...
that article also had mention how to go abt it..
i had tried in quite a few places here. esp while going to college .. and on bandra reclamation, where i could negotiate a corner at 100 kmph ,which without countersteering you cant....

though yes..if you countersteer the balance of your bike is maintained especially under brakes.. i could very well feel the difference, using your front disc brakes even on corners was possible , without locking the brakes and falling off the bike!!

or am i getting it all wrong here?

Counter-steering

This is a very nice article explaining countersteering.

Basic funda is, turn right, bike goes left. turn left, bike goes tight.

Interesting part is your body is doing that but without your knowledge...trying turning the normal way, i.e., turn handle left for left @ say 50KMPH, you'llnotice bike turning right. This'll freak you out

EDIT : Chicu, you're absolutely right. Thing is, in a superbike, countersteering is the only way to turn.

Weight of the bike plays a crucial role. Try doing countersteering on a cycle and it wont work while it does on a bike. Countersteering is damn useful for me when i'm taking mom on dad's kiho

Yeah learned abt counter steering watching the movie CARS
It counters the centrifugal force that may throw you off.

yes i have. that technique is used for drifting cars...thats not countersteering. it applies to bikes only
