They showed a few concept bikes some years back during Auto Expo, but that was it...nothing came from it.

And while I credit Maruti and Hero Honda for literally putting India on 4 and 2 wheels respectively, I find a certain enthu lacking in them.....

Hero Honda especially..... they really suck. And Maruti can land a jackpot if they put a super 1.6 litre engine or something in the Swift and sell it as the Swift Sport or something.....performance freaks will go "fida" over it

...they really will...

Already the chassis of the Swift can take more power.....

Of the million cars they sell.. (ok ok.. million was over exaggeration

), there r hardly about a 100 performance freaks. then again, making a car for 100 or so (meaning, very few numbers) will not work out for the company (any company, including HH) unless they jack up the prices. Once the prices are up, everyone shuns away from buying.

Not so long ago everyone was cribbing how 'cool maal' such as DFI / OCZ arent available. Now that they are, I hardly see any ppl buying them. Why? Coz, DFI cant compete with its niche products coz the market is very price sensitive

We the ppl who were cribbing about unavailability then, now crib about how the evil dealers are dying to make money thru our nose and skin

I agree that the market is price sensitive...but how is it that performance bikes like the 180DTSi/ Karizma sell ??

Coz there are a few performance freaks out there who can afford this stuff....

And if the companies produce high end bikes smartly, they can make a profit.....

For example, the new Baleno is supposed to be launched late thsis year or early next year...that is supposed to come with a 1.6 litre engine...how much will it take for MUL to pop that engine under the Swift's hood and price it at the 6lakh mark ??

People will buy a performance car for 6 lakhs.... the Fiat Palio 1.6 was an example...in the end the Palio wasnt a success simply coz of Fiat's pathetic after sales service...
