The Aveo is a midsize sedan launched by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand name. It is a competitor to the Honda City and the Ford Fiesta.
Now, there is a new hatch based on the sedan which will be released soon. It is expect to be end of 2006 or beginning of 2007. Launch dates are not sure.
The Aveo U-VA will be powered by a 1.2 litre engine which makes around 76 bhp. The transmission will be a 5 speed manual.
The hatch will be priced at around 4 lakhs which will make it a direct rival to the Swift, the new Zen, Getz and the Palio.
The base model will be 4 lakhs according to GM. The 1.2 LS which is the next higher model will be priced at 4.35 lakhs. The 1.2 LT will start at 4.65 lakhs and the 1.2 LT with ABS will start at 4.89 lakhs.
It is good to see a manufacturer give ABS also as an option. It is too much to hope for ABS to become standard fitment, but at least now, people who can afford it can go for this life saving option.
What is unfortunate is that GM are giving only 4 alloy wheels on the models that come with alloy wheels. The spare tyre is a regular steel wheel.
When this was done by Maruti on the Swift, there was a hue and cry and finally Maruti had to bend to the people's wishes and the top end Swift comes with 5 alloy wheels.
The U-VA will be offered in a range of colours. Blazing Red, Sterling silver, Platinum Metallic(a kind of goldenish colour), Cashmere(kind of an off white colour), Intense Black, Rainforest(a shade of green), and Velocity(blue)
