India at Doha Asian Games

And regarding top three no way we can reach this time as the distance has grown far too much.

right now indian medal tally is :
4 gold 8 silver and 9 bronze. Currently we are in 7th position, we can at most reach 6th if the show in athletics as good as Busan.

Btw India is currently in first position in tie with hosts Qatar in Chess team event. India is top seeded team and Qatar is Third seeds. China lost to close rivals uzbekistan in second round. Todays match is agains Qatar so that will ensure who will be in top three position.

In chess 21 teams are participating and it is playing on Swiss Round Robin format and event will last for 9 round. (in swiss Format Round Robin the weak result pits you again weaker team, so it you lose today tomorrow you can be pitted against a weaker opponent and likewise if you win your opponents will be stronger progressively, so it makes format interesting as standings can show rapid rises and declines.)


India is taking on Chinese Taipei in Womens team tennis finals. Best of luck to Sania and Shikha. it is at 12.00 Qatar time (2.30 pm IST) will be live on DD SPORTS.

Jaspal Rna is on course for another at Gold medal in 25 m cente fire pistol. Right now he is in second position with just one shot gap and rapid round to follow.

BTW the latest bronze medal is in Shooting mens 25 m rapid fire pistol and it came as a lucky rule.

As per new games rules any one country is not allowed to sweep all the three medals in any event, so the event was won by chinese players in top three position but because of the rule the medal was awarded to Indian.

That for sure is a weird rule which should be looked into. Nobody wants a medal which they do not deserve.

It reminds me of the dreaded 'Quota System'

Today Jaspal rana won the 25m Centre Fire Pistol event, and also helped India to secure Team Gold.

On the way to victory, the second in as many days, Jaspal Rana also equalled the existing world record. He was pinpoint accurate in second round and trounced the Chinese Liu Gouhui who led at the end of the first round.

Jaspal Rana was touted as the Golden Boy of the Indian shooting as well as whole Indian Sports Scene when he first broke in the the news rapidly collecting medals at the major events especially Commonwealth Games. Barring Hiroshima Asian Games in 1994 he was not able to produce same kind of expected results at Asiad and Olympics.

There were uproars and criticsm back home which made is mantle more steel. He became the first Indian Sportsperson to win same event in different Asian Games. That too 12 years apart.

All is well, which ends well as it is quoted for years, but in my view point this is just the beginning.

another good day for India in general:

today India secure two silver medals and a bronze medal in Athletics and opened the account in track and field events.

First silver came in Women`s 800 m.
Second Silver and Bronze cane in Women`s Heptathlon.

Our long Jumper is in second position in men`s long jump at present.

Tennis also showed good results as all the competitiors from India won their match except Rohan bopanna losing the mens singles tie. At present Bhupathi - Shikha are battling in mixed doubles tie in days last match.

Chess team is also performing good.

In golf I had good hopes but the first two days were miserable in Individual the players are languishing in the middle of table. But if they raise the level of play remarkably then India can secure a team medal at least as right now it is in fourth position.

Yesterday womens team in tennis won the silver medal after losing to top seeds chinese taipei in finals.

In hockey India did good against Oman routing them 9-0. Tomorrow India will clash with Korea in a must win situation.

If we loose the match against korea than for the first time in the history of Asian Games India would be out of knockout stages.

A weekend to forget that was at Doha.

During the days of saturday and sunday India had the worst day in the history of its Spots history. Eventhough Indian Hockey team could manage to snatch a draw with Korea but for the first time in history it failed to make the semifinals of Hockey in Asian Games.

You can imagine how grave it is, and how shamefull it must be to all the past olympians, asian games players and sports lovers in country.

In athletics India`s players could not do much, Anju bobby george failed to defend her gold medal and won the silver. India also got a silver medal in womes 400m race.

During weekend India slipped from 5th to 7th position.

Chess team in on its way to gold it seems as it has already defeated Qatar, China like strong teams. today match is agains Uzbekistan also a strong team but as India has found a 3.5 points advantage we are less likely to be weak pushovers if the form prevails for 3 more days.

Tennis, I was hoping of a great haul while we may get a few only. Womens team won the silver exectedly but mens team fared badly. Now in Individual event also the players are not much improved. The remaining entries in firlsd are. Paes - Bhupathi in mens doubles, Paes - Sania in mixed doubles, Sania in Womens Singles, rohan boppanna and his partner in mens doubles. lets see what happens.

Golf team was really hopefull of performing good but its not happening.

archery is also not upto the mark.

A few players remaining in Wrestling and Boxing who may fetch us a medal or two.

In short i do not see much improvement in Indias position from current one.

yeah man its been a bad weekend really sad hockery team didnt make it to the semis...first time since 1958!!! thats very bad

yes like chappell in cricket, mr gill has been ruling indian hockey according to his whims and taking it nowhere.
Unfortunately as pargat singh said yesterday on aajtak, all the hockey federations and even the army has joined hands with him for nepotism's sake.
same story everywhere in India. no sport has been left untouched.

This is sad. May be its high time the world wakes up and bans us from taking part in any sport on grounds of having the worst performances vis a vis population

frankly indians don't play games.
its as simple as that. we are brought up in such a way where studies are the main thing and if you play too much you are looked down upon
even those who make it to nationals are forced to complete studies and work.

then i don't know why, the inter city state rivalry never reaches the sports field. All over the world, the most popular games leagues are when the cities and clubs play against each other. see american football, nhl, basketball, european football, rugby, even cricket. India the state matches attract no one. And we are too large a country to have city matches.

^ We do have state matches but with regards to sharing of resources like water, land etc We are redefining sport

You are right about Studies and Sports but more important factors are Management of Sports and Politics in Sports.
