The 21-year-old has become a regular target for ultra-nationalists since her rise to prominence and now faces a string of allegations that she disrespected her country last week with her bare feet pictured near India's three-striped flag.
Mirza was resting her feet in the back row of the courtside boxes at Perth's Hopman Cup when the picture was taken by an news agency photographer. 'Ridiculous' allegation shatters Indian star | The Australian
Mahesh Bhupathi, a champion doubles player who won 10 Grand Slam titles, rejected the latest allegations as "ridiculous" and said the world No31 was shattered by the most recent claim.
" She is very upset. It is a major issue for her," Bhupathi said.
"At the end of the day she is a 21-year-old girl trying to do her best by everyone.
" Everything is adding up and she is starting to wonder whether it is all worth it, but people close to her, they are telling her to hang in there."
"It is most unfortunate that Sania Mirza's name is being dragged unnecessarily from one controversy to the other," He said.
"Such situations are affecting her performance and will surely have an influence on her achieving high ranking positions to qualify for the Olympics both in singles and doubles." I have to agree. This was the most foolish issue made in recent times. Its as if the media in this country just want a controversy. Over whatever issue. Or they invent one if one doesn't exist. Shameful. ---------------------------------------------- |

I always thought she was a snob, If she thinks she is doing a favour on India by representing the nation, then let her quit for good.

There is no way you can judge the distance between the flag and her from that shot. I am pretty sure there is quite a lot.
One might say it was a bit foolish but we have a habit of making an issue out of everything. And especially with her, the media has a habit of doing this. From her wearing mini skirts, to shooting in mosque to this., you have to say the media has been unfair. Hound someone like that, there are bound to find out some controversial situations.
Having said all that, She is no Leander also. Paes was a true champion for India and i doubt you can ever point out such a situation with him.

That fact that she is threatening to quit to play for India is utter foolish. One must be proud to represent the nation. However she behaves as if India would not be the country it is, if she stops playing for the country.
