The only words that come to mind after watching a truly spectacular show. The Chinese have left no stone unturned in producing, what to my mind is the most spectacular opening ceremony the world has ever seen
Absolutely gorgeous start to the 2008, Beijing Olympics.
With 302 gold medals on offer over the next 16 days and a total of 43Arab Rs available for winners, this is the biggest Olympics ever.
Now the opening ceremony,
Brilliant, spellbinding fireworks. I thought the entry of the big man showing fireworks lighting the roads of Beijing as he walked towards the stadium was awesome.
But nothing, could compare to the brilliant skywalk and a flying lap at the end to light the Olympic torch.
Drums thundered, strobe lights flickered and 14,000 performers poured through the Bird's Nest stadium in a dazzling extravaganza that offered up a vision of global harmony in line with the Games' motto "One World One Dream".
I think the bottomline of that awesome show was to showcase that China has arrived!
I mean this was an unprecedented performance. The arrangements, the synchronizations, the fireworks and finally the lighting of the torch, all were stunning.
At the end of the day Olympics is the only event, short of war where you can show your prowess to a global VIP audience and China sure showed who is the upcoming power. (India? Are you listening!!!)
^ India??, oh yeah, we are hosting the common wealth games right
Man i am shuddering to think what Delhi will dish out.
I just hope the lights don't go out in the middle of the performance Actually just to avoid that a new power station is being built by BHEL to provide power to the games village
We have a better diversity and culture(Heck all the major european blocks were trying to discover India ) so in theory our heritage is huge and we can put a spectacular show on that count. But i doubt this level of discipline and coordination can be achieved.
(Having said that, IPL opening ceremony, even though smaller, was brilliant too, noway comparable to Olympics but then if we put our weight behind it, we can do it)
