[Swimming] Michael Phelps loses for the first time in 4 years

(Rome, Italy) -- Michael Phelps has suffered his first individual loss in four years.

Phelps was beaten in the final of the men's 200-meter freestyle at the World Swim Championships in Rome on Tuesday.

Germany's Paul Beidermann was the victor, setting a new world record in the process.

Beidermann's time of one-minute, 42 seconds was 96-hundredths faster than Phelps' record set at the Beijing Olympics last year.

Phelps' last loss came at the 2005 Worlds, when Ian Crocker bested him in the 100-meter butterfly.

If it has, as i said his credibility and more about the world record he set is at risk.

This was the last major event when the hightech bodysuits were allowed. The margin with which Phelps was defeated was more astonishing for me. 200m is divided into 4 quarters and Beidermann clocked better times than Phelps in each of the quarters. In fact his final time was a good 1.22sec better than Phelps.

Arena X-Glide is a 100 per cent polyurethane body glove, so hard to slip on that the wearer needs plastics bags on his or her feet and their hands just to slide it on. It is so skintight it actually traps air, which also makes a swimmer buoyant. The LZR is a technological artifact compared to today's fully rubberised suits. And thus a Biedermann can shoot past a 14-time gold medallist such as Phelps.

Swimming topless in a leg-suit, Phelps made the point that he could still win no matter what he, or anyone else, was wearing.

Wearing leggings only, Phelps powered his way to gold at the World Championships in Rome yesterday, winning the 200metres butterfly in a world-record time of 1min51.51sec. His victory made partial amends for his defeat in the 200metres freestyle final on Tuesday, when Paul Biedermann, of Germany, broke his world record to claim the crown.

I was a National Swimmer (a Silver Medalist)
And lemme tell you sumthing.....
Even little amount of hair on your body can stop you from getting a better time....
And yes better swimsuits can help in better timings.........

And i hope u do know that - that some people get custom swimsuits/sports apparels made ?? Which are made under high level of secrecy...

After all we are talking about international medals...
