World Chess Championships 2008
Bonn, Germany
14th October - 2nd November, 2008

Vishvanathan Anand (India) V/s Vladimir Kramnik (Russia)

Perhaps the greatest sportsman produced by India and Defending champion from WCC 2007 in Mexico Vishvanathan Anand Popularly known as "Vishy" will take former champion from WCC 2006 in Bonn from Today in a 12 Game Match.

Chess is the game of wits and wizardy, but it also had its fair share of controversies.

After a long discussed and negotiated Reunification was achieved between FIDE (world Governing body) and WCC / PCA the rival factions, from 2006 onwards there is reign of undisputed champion of world.

The conditions of reunification were complicated and they also gave undue advantage to Vladimir Kramnik (the rival champion) and Vaselin topalov (the Last FIDE champion).

So much exclusive and coveted this title has become that only 15 persons have been able to win title of world champion of chess since 1886.

here are few screenshots of past history:

Recent contests between Anand and Kramnik:

Schedule of the present tournament:
Code:
Game 1 Tuesday October 14 3 p.m.

Game 3 Friday October 17 3 p.m.
Game 4 Saturday October 18 3 p.m.
Game 5 Monday October 20 3 p.m.
Game 6 Tuesday October 21 3 p.m.
Game 7 Thursday October 23 3 p.m.
Game 8 Friday October 24 3 p.m.
Game 9 Sunday October 26 3 p.m.
Game 10 Monday October 27 3 p.m.
Game 11 Wednesday October 29 3 p.m.
Game 12 Friday October 31 3 p.m.
Tiebreak Sunday November 02 3 p.m.
Apparently both the players are evenly matched to each other.
The world critics and players are divided in their opinion for the winner with little advantage to Anand.

My heart being pounding for India I will be rooting for Anand till the last move is played.

The first game is on.

17 moves completed and the contest is gruelling apparently and evenly poised at the moment.

Anand is playing balck and has employed Slav defense.

Go Anand Go.

I hope Kramnik does not create another ToiletGate controversy like the one happened in his unification match against topalov.

@Safin :- This is commentary (quite decent) plus all the moves of today's game..

WCC Kramnik v Anand - Game 1 - Chess.com

Even i am a basic chess player (enthusiast), so lack the technical know-how of thier moves, but live comments of the other players certainly helps.. You might wanna review comments too

Besides i dunno, Kramnik seemed to be playing quite passively, seems like he wasn't that prepared. Besides no-one played any rash moves, looked like it was all by the books.. No Risk, No Gains...

I have a bad feeling for tomorrow even though Anand is playing with White..

The first game ended in draw.

kramnik tried some variations aroune moves 13-15 but by 16th move Anand had it covered and it eventually headed for draw.

Looks like Kramnik has started playing mind games, i will not be surprised if around 5-7 game he unleashes something special and surprising

Anand seems to be well prepared too and expecting something. (Reminds me of Dragon variation in Anand - Kasparov match in New York).

@Safin : the chessdom link i gave has some sort of text commentory by Grandmaster Dimitrov. So it helps in analysing the match.

Organizers have banned true live coverage to fetch themselves some traffic so almost every where you will find the match delayed by about 15-20 minutes.

Anand Starts with Nizmo Indian Defence this time...

Anand is Knight Down and pawn up against Bishop of Kram..

Although Kram has positional advantage..

Game two underway.

At present Anand with white pieces is one pawn up but will be difficult to hold on to that advantage.

Both the players are trying to innovate and differ from standard lines.

@dipen01 : Anand has not played Nimzo-Indian defense, its employed by Kramnik in response to Anands first move d4.

In Nimzo Indian defense black pieces player sacrifices his pair of bishops to neutralize the white pawn structure advantage.

i am learning too
